UK Excellence Awards

The UK’s largest coach operator has been recognised as number one for their commitment to excellence and continuous improvement with a win at the British Quality Foundation’s (BQF) annual awards.

National Express came out top in an assessment by the BQF to beat six other entrants in the large organisation category and walk away with a UK Excellence Award at the prestigious London ceremony earlier this month.

The UK Excellence Award is one of the highest accolades any organisation in the UK can achieve. It recognises organisations which have demonstrated excellence in all areas of operation and involves a robust assessment undertaken by a team of trained assessors using the EFQM Excellence Model.

Chris Hardy, Managing Director at National Express UK Coach, said: “This is a great achievement and a testament to hard work across the business to be the best at what we do.

“Our most recent EFQM assessment saw us retain our 5-star accreditation and achieve ‘Enhanced Recognised for Excellence’ by scoring over 650 points. It positions us as an example of best practice for other businesses across the country, which makes me very proud.

The BQF has an extensive track record of helping organisations learn from best practice, improve their performance and achieve sustainable excellence. A focus on horizon scanning and understanding what is happening in the market was recognised by the judges as ‘allowing the business to respond with agility, being more successful than others during turbulent times and building a strategy on real fact-based information, again supporting the vision of putting the customer at the heart of everything.’

Diane Dibley, BQF Services and Member Experience, said: “There is a real thirst at National Express to flourish, and to empower people across the business to continue to make the organisation a sustainable, customer-focused business for the future.”

“National Express has worked hard over the years to get to this stage and to become a UK Excellence Award winner in 2019 is a very well deserved achievement. I have no doubt that this is not the end of the journey for them and that we will continue to see improvements across the whole operation.”
