2 Buses Face On

Xplore Dundee is celebrating a successful Park & Ride operation at The 147th Open at Carnoustie, carrying more than four times the population of Carnoustie itself to and from the golf Championship.

The bus operator teamed up with National Express colleagues from the West Midlands to deliver the service from the practice days right through to the closure of the competition.   Spectators were provided with buses running every five minutes from two sites on the outskirts of the town to a drop off/pick up point at Kinloch Street.

Managing Director of Xplore Dundee Christine McGlasson said: “I am extremely proud of the whole Xplore Dundee and West Midlands team for what we have all achieved at The Open in Carnoustie.  We were really pleased to play a role in such an important event for the local area.

“It was a great few days of teamwork and it was gratifying to receive some fantastic feedback from many of the spectators who were impressed with the organisation and efficiency of the service.”

Just over 90 000 journeys were made across the whole week, equating to around 45 000 passengers.  At the peak times on the Saturday evening, the bus team managed to move 2000 people in 40 mins, with a maximum waiting time of just 6 mins from 19th Hole to boarding the bus.

On Sunday night, the bus services made 42 journeys per hour (2800 passengers per hour) between 7-8.30pm.
