Ninewells shuttle for Charleston Drive diversion

Xplore Dundee is putting a special 22C shuttle bus in place to keep patients, visitors and staff connected with Ninewells during the upcoming closure of Charleston Drive.

One of the busiest roads in the city, Charleston Drive is undergoing essential resurfacing work between Earn Crescent and Lochay Place from Monday August 6 to Friday August 24.

Christine McGlasson, Xplore Dundee Managing Director, said: “We realise it’s vitally important to make sure that people can still get to the hospital throughout these roadworks and we’re trying to ensure we maintain the highest level of service possible in this area, despite the disruption to the road network.

“We’re working alongside Dundee City Council to keep this part of the city moving and we hope that customers will find they can still travel to and from the hospital throughout the duration of these important works.”

Diversions will be in place for bus services 17, 22, 29 and 29S and in order to maintain accessibility to Ninewells Hospital, the local bus operator is introducing a shuttle service 22C for the duration of the roadworks.

This special service will provide a clockwise loop around Menzieshill every 12 minutes, and connect with service 22 on Glamis Road at Balgay Cemetery.

  • Service 17 will be diverted via Dickson Avenue and will terminate at The Shand
  • Service 22 will be diverted via Ninewells Avenue in order to maintain access to Ninewells Hospital. (For service to/from Menzieshill, see shuttle service 22c below)
  • Service 29 will be diverted via the Technology Park in order to maintain access to Ninewells Hospital (this will not apply until phase two takes effect on Saturday 11 August)
  • School service 29s will commence from Explorer Road before serving South Road
  • Shuttle service 22c will provide a clockwise loop around Menzieshill every 12 mins (AM from 0830 to 1200; PM from 1340 to 1720), connecting with service 22 at/opposite Balgay Cemetery
    • Regular tickets (such as DaySavers) can be purchased and used on service 22c
    • A max single fare is available to make transfers for onward travel to/from Menzieshill. Drivers will punch the ticket to confirm that the transfer has been fulfilled (at no extra cost) Passengers boarding on Dickson Avenue must do so on the northbound side of the road
