Xplore Dundee: Fares Review 2019
14 December 2018 2:03 PM
Dundee’s main bus company is set to freeze the price of its multi-journey and longer-term tickets for the second year running. Xplore Dundee’s also holding the price for child/young person cash single fares and its already-discounted mobile tickets.
Managing Director Christine McGlasson said: “It’s the second year in a row that we have frozen the prices of our best value multi-journey tickets, as we recognise that everyone’s continuing to face a financial squeeze at the moment.
“Although there will be a minimal rise in the adult cash single fare, this can be avoided by buying the ticket via our mTicket app, which will stay at the 2018 price.
“We, along with most other operators, work hard to keep fares as low as possible and bus fares in Scotland remain the lowest in the UK.”
The fares review has been timed to coincide with the 2019 service changes, which are to be implemented on Sunday 13 January.
This means:
- Fares Freeze across the board for all multi-journey tickets
- mTicket products will continue to be a cheaper, cash-free option than paper passes
- Single fares for children & young people will also be frozen
- Adult single fares will change in-line with inflation, by 5p: the short hop will be £1.75; the max single will be £2.25
- Single fares on Angus services 138/139 will be revised and brought into line with Dundee city services
- Young people (16-18 years old) will continue to benefit from 1/3 off fares until their 19th birthday, with double discounts now available on our mTicket app
- Students will still be able to take full advantage of more money off their travel with mTickets on their phone
Xplore Dundee is also trialling brand new ticket machines across its fleet, with a view to investing in more modern technology to strengthen security, speed up boarding and improve the payment process for both drivers and passengers.
The machines are also paving the way for contactless payment, which should be available for customers early in 2019.
